Data and Analysis for Wind and Water Power

This page contains analysis resources developed by the Office of Budget that relate to wind and water power and the Wind Program and Water Power Program. Some of the following documents are available as Adobe Acrobat PDFs. Download Adobe Reader.

Data Books

  • Power Technologies Energy Data Book
This edition of the Power Technologies Energy Data Book contains a wide selection of data and statistics on renewable energy power technologies from a variety of sources—collected in one convenient document.

Wind Technologies Program Benefits Estimates (FY08)

Benefits analysis estimates the future benefits of EERE programs under the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) of 1993. The following reports, produced by the Office of Budget, provide data on benefits estimates for the Wind Technologies Program for 2008. Estimates for previous years are available in Program Benefits Analysis.

  • FY 2008 Benefits Report (PDF 16.3 MB)
  • Appendix E - Wind Technologies Program - Inputs for FY 2008 Benefits Estimates (PDF 497 KB)

Wind Technologies Renewable Energy Technology Characterizations

The Renewable Energy Technology Characterizations describe the technical and economic status of the major emerging renewable energy options for electricity supply. The following sections relate to wind energy technologies.

  • Overview of Wind Technologies (PDF 221 KB)
  • Advanced Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbines in Wind Farms (PDF 2.0 MB)

Analytic Team Products and Resources

These Office of Budget-developed resources include reports, papers, presentations, evaluations and Web sites.

Reports and Papers

  • Report on wind-sector trends (PDF 2.5 MB)
In May 2007, a team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) completed the inaugural "Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2006." Cofunded by the Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation (PAE) group and the Wind Technologies Program at EERE, this DOE report provides a comprehensive summary of key recent trends in the U.S. wind sector. Standing behind the report is a series of databases that provide project-level wind performance, cost, and price data.

Web Sites

  • Wind power analysis
This site includes National Renewable Energy Laboratory wind research program publications about its R&D activities in wind energy technologies.
