Algal Biofuels Strategy Workshop
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office's Algae Program will host two complementary workshops to discuss research and development needed to achieve affordable, scalable, and sustainable algae-based biofuels. The first workshop will be held November 19–20, 2013, at Arizona State University. The second workshop is tentatively planned for February 2014, in the southeastern region of the United States (location to be provided at a later date).
To highlight the progress made across the industry in the five years since DOE organized the National Algal Biofuel Technology Roadmap workshop, these strategy workshops will now provide a forum to discuss, reassess, and prioritize technical research and development needs. These workshops will convene university, national laboratory, industry, advocacy, and government stakeholders to consider:
- The current barriers to algal biofuel commercialization, particularly in the near term
- The barriers that should be research priorities, possibly contributing to large strides in progress toward near-term goals
- The appropriate metrics for success
- The state of technology and progress made in achieving success metrics.
The outcomes of these discussions will assist DOE with strategy development, evaluating the National Algal Biofuels Technology Roadmap, and planning a breakout session at the Office's annual Biomass conference in 2014.
The workshops will be structured to potentially include facility tours, sessions outlining the Algae Program's goals and research strategies, speaker panels on topics of interest, and facilitated breakout sessions.
This event has reached capacity. Please look for upcoming details on the spring workshop soon. Information on the location and accommodations is listed below.
