The Department of Energy (DOE) is a major provider of funding for basic and applied research for converting biomass resources into biofuels. Many financial assistance opportunities are available for small-scale to large-scale research activities.

Funding opportunities specific to DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), including the Bioenergy Technologies Office's solicitations, can be found on EERE's Funding Opportunity Exchange. All DOE and EERE opportunities are provided to grants.gov—the central database for all federal government grants. These sites provide accurate, up-to-date information on all solicitations, and both sites' individual postings contain contact information and application criteria details for current solicitations. To find more information and application requirements for specific announcements, use the search function in either of the abovementioned databases and search by reference number, subject, or title.

In addition to independent solicitations, DOE conducts joint solicitations with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of the Biomass Research and Development Initiative. Project criteria are specified in each new Request for Proposal; however, information regarding past project awardees may also provide guidance for prospective applicants. DOE and USDA encourage you to apply.
