U.S. Department of Energy - Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
Biomass Program
Budget
The Office of the Biomass Program (OBP) currently requests funding via Energy and Water Development (EWD) appropriations bills.
As illustrated, prior to 2006, funding was also requested from Department of the Interior and related Agencies' appropriations bills. Research and development projects during those fiscal years show an increasing level of funding for Congressionally-directed activities (generally referred to as "earmarks"). The Continuing Resolution for FY 2007 did not contain any Congressionally-directed activities. In FY 2008, biomass-related earmarks are funded through a separate budget, under the newly-created Federal Energy Assistance Programs.
The $198 million appropriated for the Biomass Program in the FY 2008 budget allows for continued acceleration of OBP research, development, and deployment activities to achieve the goals of the President's "Twenty in Ten" effort and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.
