Commercial Building Energy Alliances
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Commercial Building Energy Alliances (CBEAs) are driven and managed by key industry partners whose goal is to transform the energy efficiency of commercial buildings. The alliances play a critical role in working toward the objectives of the Commercial Building Initiative (CBI). Here you will find an overview of the alliances and how they operate.
-
Retailer Energy Alliance
Retailers committed to reducing the energy costs, greenhouse gas emissions, and overall operating risks of retail businesses.
-
Commercial Real Estate Energy Alliance
Portfolio owners and operators who promote research, technology, and best practices that will improve the energy efficiency of commercial real estate buildings.
-
Hospital Energy Alliance
Leading health care companies and industry organizations working to reduce facility expenses and provide a more comfortable environment through energy-efficient hospitals.
Commercial Building Partnerships
Learn how companies participating in the Commercial Building Partnerships (CBP) program are dramatically reducing energy consumption by applying both current and cutting-edge technologies and strategies in specific building projects. This public/private, cost-shared initiative sponsored by DOE is leveraging the successes of CBP projects through each company's commitment to portfolio-wide replication of the technologies and strategies used. The goal is to achieve whole-building energy savings of 30% or more in retrofits and 50% or more in new construction, relative to ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004.
Suppliers
Suppliers play a critical role in providing energy-saving technologies and strategies. Learn more about how suppliers can participate with the alliances.

Save the Date for the CBEA Efficiency Forum May 23–24, 2012
How will CBEA help shape the energy efficiency solutions available to the U.S. commercial building sector?
To answer this question, DOE will host the first-ever CBEA Efficiency Forum, a unique market engagement opportunity for Alliance members and key commercial building stakeholders. The aim is to leverage this CBEA-wide gathering for an executive-level information exchange with senior counterparts (e.g., VPs of engineering, purchasing, or R&D) from the manufacturing, service provider, financial, and utility communities. An array of targeted roundtable breakout discussions will be held to discuss deployment challenges and opportunities for each 2012 CBEA project.
The CBEA Efficiency Forum will take place on May 23–24 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO, in the nation's largest net-zero energy office building. Space is limited, so CBEA members are asked to send only one representative for each Project Team they participate on, to attend both the CBEA All-Member Meeting on day one and the CBEA Stakeholders Conversation on day two. Day two will also include senior stakeholders from outside of the Alliances, who will be asked to register for limited slots on a first-come, first-served basis. Further details and registration information will be available in the coming weeks.
Tentative Agenda
May 23: CBEA All-Member Meeting (9:00–4:00 Mountain)
- Network—"Meet and greet" with your peers from across the Alliances and DOE experts
- Learn—Key industry updates on codes, standards, and other relevant emerging topics
- Replicate—Leading examples from fellow members on how they are saving energy and money by deploying existing CBEA resources
- Plan—Breakout discussions by each Project Team—Lighting and Electrical, Space Conditioning, Refrigeration and Food Service, Plug and Process Loads, and Market Transformation—on 2012 projects that are complete and ready for launch on day 2
May 24: CBEA Conversation with Commercial Building Stakeholders (9:00–4:00 Mountain)
- Collaborate—Sharing opportunities for the broader commercial building stakeholder community to get involved
- Announce—Official launch of all 2012 CBEA projects both via the CBI website and live during the meeting
- Listen—Breakout discussions by each Project Team with industry stakeholders to gather feedback on 2012 projects
High Performance Rooftop Unit Challenge
The Commercial Building Energy Alliance, in conjunction with DOE, recently developed a new design specification for commercial rooftop units. CBEA members are eager to start purchasing these units and are encouraging manufacturers to develop products to these specifications. Learn more.
