Statutory Authority

EPCA, as amended by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT 2005) prescribed Energy Conservation Standard for some commercial refrigeration equipment, which became effective on January 1, 2010. EPCA directed the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to conduct a rulemaking and publish energy conservation standard for other types of commercial refrigeration equipment. DOE published these standards on January 9, 2009 (74 FR 1092). The Department determined that these energy conservation standards for commercial refrigeration equipment would result in significant conservation of energy, were technologically feasible, and were economically justified.
