AGENCY: Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Department of Energy.
ACTION: Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Public Meeting
SUMMARY: The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPACT 2005) includes amendments to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) to provide for new Federal energy efficiency and water conservation test procedures, and related definitions, for certain consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment.
For each of these types of products or equipment, DOE is proposing some or all of the following: test procedures for measuring energy efficiency and/or water-use efficiency, definitions, and/or test sampling, compliance certification, and enforcement requirements. The products and equipment covered by these proposals are:

Furthermore, the Department is announcing technical corrections to the October 18, 2005, Final Rule, 70 FR 60407, which the Department has described in detail in the Federal Register notices and will add to the rule language.

Public Meeting:
The Department held a public meeting on Tuesday, September 26, 2006. The purpose of this meeting was to hear the views of interested persons on the issues and process involved in the rulemaking to consider energy efficiency test procedures for consumer products and certain commercial and industrial equipment.
