Commercial Equipment

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 set standards for certain commercial equipment and set schedules requiring DOE to make, review, and update standards. Read about the standards in the U.S. Code.

DOE currently is active in standards development for the following commercial products:

Commercial Heating, Air Conditioning and Water Heating Equipment Notice of Document Availability for ASHRAE Products (Instantaneous Tankless Water Heaters, Commercial Boilers, Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs), 3-Phase Air Conditioners <65kBtu/h, and single-package vertical units (SPVUs)).
