The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is required by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended by section 136(c)(1) of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, to establish energy conservation standards for residential central air conditioners and heat pumps. The Department will be holding a Framework public meeting on June 12, 2008, to discuss issues and procedures involved in energy conservation standards rulemaking for residential central air conditioners and heat pumps.
Energy Conservation Standards Rulemaking
The purpose of the Framework Document (PDF 1.4 MB) is to describe the procedural and analytical approaches the DOE anticipates using to evaluate and establish energy conservation standards for the covered residential central air conditioners and heat pumps, and to encourage and facilitate stakeholder input during the rulemaking.
