Residential Furnaces Notice of Public Meeting Describing the Rulemaking Analysis Plan

This page presents information on the Notice of Public Meeting (NOPM) and Rulemaking Analysis Plan developed as part of the current energy conservation standards rulemaking for residential furnaces.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is required to publish a final rule amending energy conservation standards for residential furnaces no later than May 1, 2011. DOE is publishing this notice of public meeting (NOPM) to announce: (1) the availability of the Rulemaking Analysis Plan (RAP) document, which details the analytical framework, models, and tools that DOE will use for the purposes of amending energy conservation standards for residential furnaces; and (2) an informal public meeting to solicit feedback from interested parties on the proposals outlined in the RAP.

DOE's comment period for the NOPM and Residential Furnaces Rulemaking Analysis Plan is open until 12:00 am EDT April 27, 2010.

Some of the following documents are available as Adobe Acrobat PDFs. Download Adobe Reader.

In the RAP, DOE specifically requests comments about a consensus agreement for residential central air conditioner, heat pump, and furnace standards. This agreement was submitted as a joint comment to DOE by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute, American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, Alliance to Save Energy, Appliance Standards Awareness Project, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships. The consensus agreement is available for review below.
