Market Transformation Project Team: Building Re-Tuning

Building re-tuning is a low-cost form of retro-commissioning that building facility staff can implement to improve the operations of a building, saving energy and money. Re-tuning buildings can reduce energy use of HVAC systems by 5–20% by providing building operators, managers, and service providers with the necessary skills to systematically and continually identify no- and low-cost operational improvements.

DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) developed a building re-tuning training program, and PNNL trains building operators, managers, and businesses that install and service HVAC equipment to optimally re-tune large commercial buildings.

The Market Transformation Project Team is promoting increased adoption of commercial building re-tuning to scale this best practice in the market. Trainings are intended for facilities managers who can train others in their organization on building re-tuning, and sharing pre and post re-tuning energy consumption is a condition of participation.

Online Curriculum

Learn how to assess buildings' energy needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement low-cost changes to reduce overall energy consumption with this free online interactive curriculum. Working closely with subject matter experts who also conduct Building Re-tuning classroom training, the e-learning development team created this "hands-on" course that takes the best of classroom and field training to deliver engaging, virtual learning activities.
