This bar chart shows the number of commercial and residential buildings in the DOE Buildings Performance Database completed per decade beginning with pre-1900s through the 2000s. Approximately 200 to 400 buildings were completed per decade through the end of the 1930s, with 262 buildings completed prior to 1900, 401 buildings completed in the 1900s, 222 buildings completed in the 1910s, 297 buildings completed in the 1920s, and 304 buildings completed in the 1930s. The 1940s onward saw a large jump in the number of buildings completed, with 1,267 in the 1940s, 1,306 in the 1950s, 1,445 in the 1960s, 1,851 in the 1970s, 1,741 in the 1980s, 2,052 in the 1990s, and 611 in the 2000s.
