Buildings Energy Data Exchange Specification

The Building Energy Data Exchange Specification (BEDES) is a data format designed to support analysis of the measured energy performance of commercial and residential buildings, with fields for building characteristics, efficiency measures and energy use. The BEDES defines and describes these data fields and their relationships. While the BEDES was originally developed for use in the Buildings Performance Database and other DOE tools, the DOE is beginning to work with the energy efficiency industry to explore whether a set of common terms and definitions for building energy performance might have broader use and value.

The current draft of the BEDES is available to download in three formats: PDF, Excel or XML Schema Description (XSD).
