The Retailer Energy Alliance 2008 Supplier Summit
On June 5, 2008, the Retailer Energy Alliance (REA), in coordination with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), held the first REA Supplier Summit, with nearly 200 attendees representing major retailers, suppliers, and other stakeholder organizations. The summit forged a communication path between retailers, to identify their energy efficiency needs, and suppliers, to challenge them to find ways to meet those needs.
Achieving REA's goal—to spur major improvements in the energy efficiency of retail facilities—requires sharing information on technologies that reduce energy use and environmental impact, such as lighting and refrigeration systems, HVAC, food service equipment, and building controls. The Supplier Summit was a unique opportunity to learn from retailers about the barriers that prevent them from using cost-effective, energy-efficient strategies for their operations, and to begin a dialogue with suppliers on how to eliminate them.
The meeting was hosted by current members of the REA Steering Committee, including ASHRAE, Best Buy, Food Lion, Home Depot, IESNA, Kohl's, McDonald's, Staples, Target, Walmart, and Whole Foods Market. Supplier Summit presentations and other materials are available below.
