Gundersen Lutheran Case Study: Lowering Health Care Costs through Energy Efficiency

June 3, 2009

Gundersen Lutheran Health System – a not-for-profit serving the tri-state region of western Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and southeastern Minnesota – also serves as a member of DOE’s Hospital Energy Alliance Steering Committee. Through an aggressive program that combines conservation, efficiency, and renewables, Gundersen Lutheran is realizing its goals of reducing baseline energy costs by 20 percent by the end of 2009 and achieving 100 percent energy neutrality by 2014.

A case study on Gundersen Lutheran’s efforts, “Lowering Health Care Costs through Energy Efficiency,” is featured in the May/June 2009 issue of Quality Matters, published online by The Commonwealth Fund: “a private foundation working toward a high performance health system.”
