DOE Building America Team Member Breaks Ground on Energy-Efficient Housing Project

November 10, 2006

On October 6, DOE Building America partner member IBACOS, in partnership with Tresbri Development, broke ground on a 34-unit single family, mixed-income housing project to demonstrate energy-efficient home design, which will include features such as a  structural insulated panel system (SIPS), highly efficient heating and cooling equipment, and ENERGY STAR® appliances.  The development will showcase marketable, energy efficient, affordable housing using renewable technologies, and help homebuyers identify affordable mortgage financing options with lower monthly payments, which recognize the cost savings associated with increased energy efficiency. The project will create three to five value-engineered housing types that will be at least 40 percent more energy efficient than the Building America Benchmark, even before savings from onsite renewable energy production.  For additional information contact Ed Pollock with DOE’s Building America, 202-586-5778
