DOE Presents "Making the Business Case for Green Building"

April 30, 2008

On April 29, 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sponsored the "Building for the 21st Century Lecture Series" held at the National Building Museum, featuring Gary Saulson, Director of Corporate Real Estate for PNC Financial Services Group.

PNC is the world's largest owner of green buildings and has developed LEED certified properties. Mr. Saulson provided an overview of PNC's many projects including the Firstside Center in Pittsburgh and branches throughout the United States. Additionally, Mr. Saulson reviewed the process PNC undertook to ensure their buildings were built green.

Mr. Saulson also examined the results of an evaluation comparing the new green branches with their older branches. PNC realized decreased energy consumption, decreased water usage, and increased occupant satisfaction with the new branch design. As a result of PNC's positive experiences with green building, they are working to develop additional projects.
