September 15, 2009
On Thursday, September 3, the Building Energy Codes Program presented a one-hour overview of the Commercial Building Envelope Requirements of the 2009 IECC, followed by 30 minutes of questions and answers. The webinar, which is the second of three such overviews, had 1,820 attendees. View a list of available Building Energy Codes webinars.
The commercial building provisions of this model energy code require 15% greater energy efficiency than the 2006 edition and are substantially equivalent to those of ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007. The governors of all states have assured the Secretary that they will promote the adoption of a commercial building energy code (ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2007) or achieve equivalent or greater energy savings. A number of states that adopt the other model codes of the International Code Council (such as building, mechanical, and plumbing codes) intend to adopt the 2009 IECC.
Architects, engineers, and designers participate in this series to understand the new provisions of the code so they can demonstrate to code officials that their designs comply. Code officials participate to learn about enforcement. All find that Web-based training eliminates travel and minimizes their time away from the office. The previous session on lighting drew 1,993 participants. The sessions are recorded and posted on the Web for downloading and viewing.
