Replacing a pre-1993 fridge with an ENERGY STAR® qualified model can cut your related energy costs in half.

Energy Facts: Refrigerators built before 1993 are energy hogs, and even some newer models may be worth replacing. A new ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerator uses at least 20% less energy than standard models and 40% less energy than standard models sold in 2001.

Scout It Out: How old is your refrigerator? Are the door seals airtight? Test them by closing the door over a sheet of paper or dollar bill. If you can pull the paper or bill out easily, the latch may need adjustment, the seal may need replacing, or you might consider buying a new unit.
