On-Site Renewable Energy

Most homeowners purchase all the energy needed to heat, cool, light, and operate their homes—often a combination of electricity and natural gas, propane, or heating oil. But with on-site renewable energy options—primarily solar, wind, geothermal and microhydropower—homeowners can become self-sufficient in meeting some or all of their energy requirements. In addition to providing information about these different options, this section also discusses connecting on-site systems to the grid.
