The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) strategically partners with private industry and industry associations to accelerate the development and market introduction of solid-state lighting.
Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance (NGLIA)
In 2005, DOE signed a Memorandum of Agreement with NGLIA, an alliance of lighting manufacturers formed to accelerate solid-state lighting development and commercialization through government-industry partnership. DOE and NGLIA recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding continuing their partnership into 2012. Learn more.

Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES)
In 2006, DOE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IES, agreeing to work together on the development of strong lighting industry standards, including needed standards for solid-state lighting. In 2011, DOE and IES signed a new Memorandum of Understanding continuing their partnership into 2016. Learn more.
