DOE Releases Biopower Technical Strategy Workshop Summary Report
January 10, 2011
On December 2–3, 2009, the Biomass Program conducted the Biopower Technical Strategy Workshop in Denver, Colorado, to explore biopower opportunities in the United States. A wide spectrum of industry, academic, national laboratory, and government experts attended the workshop, which served as an open forum to discuss technical and economic challenges; research, development and demonstration (RD&D) priorities; and issues related to feedstocks, sustainability, and market transformation. The workshop summary report released today focuses on challenges to the expanded use of biopower and the possible solutions, including technology RD&D and market transformation mechanisms. The Biomass Program expects to use this report to support strategic planning and help map future R&D priorities in sustainable biopower.
