DOE Solicits Feedback on Biopower Technical Strategy Workshop Report Draft
September 15, 2010
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Request for Information (RFI) in mid-August to solicit feedback on the Draft 'Biopower Technical Strategy Workshop Summary Report,' which was created using the results of a workshop held on December 2-3, 2009, in Denver, Colorado.
The Biopower Technical Strategy Workshop brought together representatives with expertise in the biopower field from industry, national laboratories, Federal agencies, along with key DOE Biomass Program staff, in order to gain insights on the opportunities related to biopower technology. The purpose of the workshop was to provide a forum for discussing technical and economic challenges; research, development and demonstration priorities (RD&D); and issues related to feedstocks, sustainability, and market transformation. Facilitators and technical chairs for each of the five breakout sessions outlined chapters for the Report based upon feedback from participants of the workshop. Details on the workshop can be found at http://obpbiopower.govtools.us/.
The Report will assist in the development of biopower R&D priorities within DOE’s Biomass Program and approaches to achieving a widespread, sustainable U.S. biopower industry. DOE is seeking comments from those members of the biopower community and relevant stakeholders that did not participate in DOE’s December 2009 Workshop and from those workshop attendees who may have follow-up input.
DOE’s Biomass Program has outlined a series of proposed questions and stated assumptions regarding the draft document in the RFI Guidelines found on the FedConnect Web site (search “Biopower” under “Search Public Opportunities”).
