Argonne Releases Updated Document on Idling Reduction

Argonne National Laboratory has released an updated version of its popular idling reduction backgrounder titled, “Idling: Cruising the Fuel Inefficiency Expressway,” by Dr. Linda Gaines and Terry Levinson. The June 2011 edition incorporates the following updates: Inclusion of a significantly updated map showing states and jurisdictions with anti-idling regulations; Revised text and graphs reflecting new fuel prices and the reduced price of single-system electrified parking spaces (EPSs); New chart showing faster payback for idling reduction equipment at higher diesel prices; Updated information on the increased number of states accepting the 400-pound weight exemption for auxiliary power units (APUs); and Discussion of reduced EPS availability resulting from supplier business changes. The updated document is available from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center.
