Web Project Management Guidelines

Top Five Standards Every EERE Web Project Manager Should Know

These are the top five issues that every EERE Web Project Manager should know and apply in their work on the EERE Web site.

  1. All new and redesigned sites need to be in the EERE template and the OpenText CMS.

Exceptions are sometimes granted, but must be approved by Sarah Kirchen in advance.

  2. All sites will use the EERE domain (URL).  Any exceptions must be preapproved.

All new sites will use the eere.energy.gov domain, unless otherwise approved. Top level .GOV domains, .ORG, .NET, and .COM sites all have special requirements and approvals that must be met before they can be used.

  3. All new sites and redesigns must go through the Project Review Team, as explained on the Process and Approvals page.

Following EERE's required process will help ensure that your site meets EERE standards and has met all of the required approvals. Additionally, every project should start with a project charter to help you define your goals, project scope, and criteria for success.

  4. All sites must have a maintenance plan.

Maintenance is a mission-critical activity to keep sites current and accurate.

  5. Contact your EERE Lead Contractor early and often.

    The Lead Contractor will:

    • Facilitate Web site reviews and approvals with the EERE Web Enterprise Manager and Template Coordinator
    • Answer all of your questions about EERE Web management, including: branding, domains, information architecture, collaboration, conference sites, partnership sites, applications, Web site standards, redesigns, etc.
    • Help you access your statistics for site analysis.

To manage a successful Web project on the EERE Web site, you need to be aware of EERE's processes for developing, maintaining, and getting approval for you Web sites. Some projects, such as developing surveys or applying for special URLs, may require getting approval in advance from DOE or the Office of Management and Budget. Familiarizing yourself with EERE's project management standards will help your project run smoothly, and help you get your site developed faster and more easily.
