Web Project Management Guidelines

Top Five Standards Every EERE Web Project Manager Should Know

These are the top five issues that every EERE Web Project Manager should know and apply in their work on the EERE Web site.

  1. All new and redesigned sites need to be in the EERE template and the RedDot CMS.

Exceptions are sometimes granted, but must be approved by Sarah Kirchen in advance.

  2. All sites will use the EERE domain (URL).  Any exceptions must be preapproved.

All new sites will use the eere.energy.gov domain, unless otherwise approved. Top level .GOV domains, .ORG, .NET, and .COM sites all have special requirements and approvals that must be met before they can be used.

  3. All new sites and redesigns must have a project charter and follow the steps explained on the Process and Approvals page.

Following EERE's required process will help ensure that your site meets EERE standards and has met all of the required approvals. Additionally, every project should start with a charter that will help you define your goals, project scope, and criteria for success.

  4. All sites must have a maintenance plan.

Maintenance is a mission-critical activity to keep sites current and accurate.

  5. Contact your EERE Web team client rep early and often.

Your EERE Web team client rep will:

    • Facilitate Web site reviews and approvals with the EERE Web Manager and Template Coordinator
    • Answer all of your questions about EERE Web management, including: branding, domains, information architecture, collaboration, conference sites, partnership sites, applications, Web site standards, redesigns, etc.
    • Help you access your statistics for site analysis.

DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Web site receives millions of visits each year and is a popular gateway to hundreds of Web pages and documents on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The prominence of the EERE Web site, coupled with our need to promote EERE's key messages and provide users with up-to-date information, requires us to have a professional presence that our customers can recognize. To this end, we have developed standards and guidelines for developing all EERE sites.

All Web sites (including programs, subsites, and office sites) funded by DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy should follow these standards. The Web Project Management Guidelines in this section should be used in conjunction with the Web Content Guidelines and the Web Technical Guidelines.

The standards and guidelines will evolve as new needs are raised. Contact the Web Template Coordinator for questions about your particular site.
