Standalone Flash applications and Web sites are coded entirely in Flash, normally to integrate animation or a more complex level of design into a Web site.

Because of problems with usability and accessibility, standalone Flash applications and Web sites are best used for short term deployment Web sites. As a best practice, they should never be used for permanent content.

Requirements

If you plan to develop a standalone Flash application or Web site, notify the following before you begin any work on your site:

They will explain how to develop your site so that you can gather statistics from it using EERE's stats package. If you begin work on the site before contacting them, you may not be able to receive statistics on your site.

See our requirements on Flash animations and text versions for more information about how to make accessible Flash content.
