Title:Energy Savings Activities—Lighting
Summary:

Students use the scientific method to examine school lighting technologies and determine if there are opportunities to save energy and money.

Curriculum: Science, Language Arts, Math
Plan Time:2-4 class periods with follow-up presentations
Materials:

Handouts included; light meter, two-socket watt meter, poster paper, markers, colored pencils or crayons, tape, one incandescent and one fluorescent light bulb, presentation software, disposable camera, picture CD.

National Standards: 5-8

  • INT-A: 1.c. Use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret data.
  • INT-A: 1.g. Communicate scientific procedures and explanations.
  • INT-B: 3.a. Energy is a property of many substances and is associated with heat, light, electricity, mechanical motion, sound, nuclei, and the nature of a chemical.
