Video fades up from black, Steve Schultz, 3M's Corporate Energy Manager appears standing in front of a modern looking corporate set with a 3D model of the 3M logo appearing on a screen behind him. A lower-third title appears over him reading "Steve Schultz C.E.M, 3M Corporate Energy Manager. He says,

"Hello. My name is Steve Schultz. I am the corporate energy manager at 3M.

We at 3M believe that improving energy efficiency is one of the most important things we can do to reduce our energy costs, to conserve natural resources, and to position our company for sustainable growth into the future. (Lower third title fades out)

We have set, and met, aggressive goals for our company. Between 2005 and 2010, our goal was to reduce the energy we use to manufacture products by 20%. We not only exceeded that goal, but are now working to improve by another 15% between 2010 and 2015.

3M's partnership with the ENERGY STAR Industrial Program and the Department of Energy Industrial Technologies Program has provided guidelines, technical tools, and resources that have helped us achieve these improvements.

The recent adoption of the new ISO 50001, signifies the importance of a formalized energy management system. Managing energy should be more than implementing energy projects; it should include setting goals and objectives, and measuring progress toward achievement of them. This approach will help ensure industry receives the full benefit of the effort put forth to identify, implement, and maintain the savings from energy efficiency projects.

3M has been involved in the development of the ISO standard and the Superior Energy Performance Program over the last few years. In fact, two of our locations, one in the United States and one in Canada, have been participating in a pilot of the program.

We feel confident that the new ISO standard, the Superior Energy Performance Program and other related programs, will help us improve energy efficiency and thereby gain and maintain the competitive advantages that will make us all successful. We at 3M are committed to this challenge.
