To accomplish the goals of the Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supports increased funding for manufacturing research and development across the board, specifically with the goal of growing the clean energy manufacturing industry in the United States.

Examples include:

Solar Manufacturing Technology

Solar Manufacturing Technology (SolarMat) intends to fund the development and demonstration of innovative, yet commercially and technically viable, manufacturing technology that can achieve a significant market or manufacturing impact in one to four years. The funding opportunity is motivated by the need for manufacturing advances in both photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies to significantly reduce costs of solar-generated electricity in the United States. National Network for Manufacturing Innovation

EERE is proud to support the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI), as announced by President Obama during the State of the Union, by creating one of the first Institutes in the NNMI, which will focus on technologies critical to clean energy manufacturing.
