Energy Management at DOE
The Transformational Energy Action Management (TEAM) Initiative challenges the Department of Energy (DOE) to lead the way in reducing facility and fleet energy consumption. While FEMP does not hold direct management authority or budgetary resources for procurement and project deployment, it does provide awareness, training, and planning support to help DOE achieve TEAM Initiative objectives.
The TEAM Initiative sets aggressive goals in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation for DOE that meet or exceed current Federal energy management legislation and mandates. This includes the reduction of energy consumption by 30% and water consumption by 16% before the end of fiscal year 2009.
TEAM Initiative Goals
FEMP assists DOE in establishing energy management programs to meet TEAM Initiative goals.
- Reduce energy consumption by 30% and water consumption by 16% in all DOE facilities
- Acquire at least 7.5% of all energy from renewable sources
- Build alternative fueling stations on all sites by 2008, and replace all conventional fuel vehicles in the DOE fleet with alternative fuel vehicles by 2010
- Attain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold standard on all new buildings and on all buildings that go through major renovations
- Attain a LEED Gold standard on 15% of all current buildings by the end of fiscal year 2015
- Give preference to bio-based, environmentally-friendly sources of energy and water, while reducing the use of hazardous and toxic chemicals and managing the production of waste
- Develop best-practice models for the use of third-party financing for energy saving projects
- Improve the energy efficiency of all data centers by 10% by 2011
