Energy Management at DOE Facilities

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) helps DOE site personnel reduce energy and water use at DOE facilities through its Departmental Energy Management Program (DEMP) and Transformational Energy Action Management (TEAM) Initiative.

Departmental Energy Management Program

DEMP helps rank retrofit projects, provides financial and technical support, offers counsel for leveraging appropriated funds with private sector financing, and ensures compliance with executive orders and legislation.

To promote energy-efficient design practices at DOE facilities, DEMP works with the Energy Efficiency Working Group (EEWG)—a committee comprised of energy management professionals from DOE's field, operations and support offices; national laboratories; and M&O contractors. DEMP recognizes outstanding energy management accomplishments by DOE personnel through its Departmental Energy Management Awards.

DEMP also compiles and submits information as required under executive orders and legislation. For more information about what DEMP submits, see DOE's Annual Reports to Congress (PDF 2.6 MB). Download Adobe Reader.

For more detailed information on DOE energy management responsibilities, read DOE Order 430.2A (PDF 352 KB). For more information about DEMP, awards, reporting, or other DOE energy management issues, please contact Jennifer McCain.

Transformational Energy Action Management Initiative

The TEAM Initiative is DOE's plan to reduce energy consumption by 30% and water consumption by 16% in all DOE facilities by the year 2009. The initiative also encapsulates a number of goals for DOE's fleets, energy sources, and overall energy efficiency. For more information, visit the TEAM Web site.
