Facilities

Federal agencies must meet several energy, water, and environmental management goals including those set forth in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and those subsequently strengthened by Executive Order 13423. For federal facilities those requirements include:

  • improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings
  • using sustainable design when constructing new buildings
  • reducing water consumption
  • increasing the use of renewable energy technologies
  • using sustainable environmental practices

To help agencies achieve their goals, FEMP provides information on current requirements, designated senior energy officials for each agency, agency reporting, guidance documents, and many other resources.
