Each year, FEMP helps agencies to implement successful energy and water saving projects at their facilities.

FEMP can provide expert, unbiased technical assistance to any federal agency interested in developing a DER or CHP project. Specific assistance can include the following:

  • Screen for DER project opportunities, including free combined heat and power screenings
  • Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies
  • Collect baseline data
  • Provide support for addressing policy and regulatory constraints—siting and permitting, grid interconnection requirements, exit fees, backup charges
  • Review and verify design, including component matching and sizing verification
  • Develop procurement specifications
  • Evaluate technical/price proposal
  • Take performance measurements
  • Monitor existing systems.

If agencies need assistance with project financing, FEMP will help you identify appropriate partners (energy services companies or utilities) and can assist in navigating the process.

To access these services, contact your DOE Regional Office FEMP representative. FEMP can often provide technical assistance and support to agencies at no charge. When FEMP funds are limited and agencies have funding available, FEMP can cost share to provide that same expert, unbiased support. Please contact us with any questions.
