Solar Thermal Concentrating Systems
The first Technology-Specific Super ESPC, for solar thermal concentrating systems to implement low-cost hot water projects, was awarded to Industrial Solar Technology Corporation.
Contact information is available for IST Corp. and DOE representatives handling this Super ESPC.
Technology Description
Parabolic troughs, one form of concentrating collector, use mirrored surfaces curved in a linearly extended parabolic shape to focus sunlight on a dark-surfaced absorber tube running the length of the trough. Heat-transfer fluid is pumped through the absorber tube to pick up the solar heat and transfer it to heat exchangers, which heat potable water or a thermal storage tank. Parabolic trough systems use single-axis tracking systems to keep the collector continually oriented toward the sun.
