Technology-Specific Super ESPCs
Technology-Specific Super ESPCs focus on technologies that promise substantial energy savings and are well suited for application in Federal facilities but are not well enough established in the marketplace to be readily available through routine acquisition processes.
The energy services companies (ESCOs) who were awarded the technology-specific Super ESPC prime contracts have demonstrated their expertise in the application of these technologies through past performance as well as proposing and executing specific projects defined in the U. S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) requests for proposals.
Types of Technologies
Technology-Specific Super ESPCs give Federal agencies ready access to quality sources of expertise and financing for four technology families:
- Biomass and Alternate Methane Fuels
- Geothermal Heat Pumps
- Photovoltaics
- Solar Thermal Concentrating Systems
In addition, DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) is placing a technology-specific emphasis on combined cooling, heating and power (CHP) systems. Although no Super ESPC is planned for these technologies, CHP systems are being deployed through regional, "all-purpose" Super ESPCs.
