Energy Conference Opens in Chicago
More than one-thousand energy management experts are in Chicago for a conference to discuss ways the government and energy industry can curb consumption.
Participants at the "Energy 2006" conference and trade show also will talk about how to increase renewable energy and conserve water.
The event featured 81 workshops and nearly 100 exhibits. Organizers say the country's latest heat wave should be a hot topic, with discussions about the reliability of the electric utility grid system, the risk of rolling brownouts, and the role of government when usage hits peak levels.
This year's session (at the Hyatt Regency) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
