EERE Draws on Social Media for Energy Awareness Month

October is Energy Awareness Month, and DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is helping to raise energy awareness through our expanding use of social media. EERE has long offered an RSS feed for its press releases and the stories from the EERE Network News, but our list of RSS feeds has now expanded to 13, several of which can be customized by topic. We also offer an Energy Savers Blog, as well as a blog about technical Webcasts offered by our Technical Assistance Project, which is geared towards state and local officials. Many of our postings from blogs and newsletters are available as widgets and gadgets that can be added to your own Web site, blog, or social networking page, while several of our sites offer social bookmarking. And now you can demonstrate your energy acumen by becoming a fan of our new Energy Savers Facebook page (where some of the current fans might seem familiar to you).

Online experiences are a great way to learn about energy, but many people find there's nothing better than an in-person, hands-on experience with the latest energy technologies. If you're one of those people, you're also in luck, as the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is launching its annual ASES National Solar Tour on October 3. This year, tours of solar homes and other facilities are being offered in 49 states, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. So far, only the state of South Dakota is left out, but there's still time to organize a tour! ASES anticipates that more than 150,000 people will participate in the 14th annual event, which is sponsored in part by EERE. Be sure to check the tour information carefully, as some tours are held on dates other than October 3. See ASES press release and the clickable map of the solar tour locations.
