Maps Show Opportunities for Renewable Energy at Federal Facilities

Example resource map showing the United States and shades of red to yellow for solar vent preheat savings to investment ratio (1999).

FEMP's Geographic Information System maps help Federal planners identify places where renewable energy technologies are cost-effective.

To help you choose the renewable energy technology that's right for your facility, FEMP provides maps showing the Federal market potential for these technologies. FEMP and Resource Assessment staff at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory used energy resource and economic assessments to map potential Federal markets for solar water heating, photovoltaic (PV) systems, and solar ventilation-air preheating (e.g., "solar walls"). Additional maps are planned for other technologies.

If you'd like to assess the potential for renewable energy on public lands, review this joint study between the Department of Energy and Interior. It demonstrates great potential for renewable energy development and power production on U.S. public lands.
