U.S. Department of Energy - Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
Federal Energy Management Program
Outreach
October is Energy Awareness Month. This year's theme emphasizes securing America's energy future by working together for clean energy solutions.
FEMP spreads the word about energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water saving strategies through a wide variety of publications, on-line resources, recognition and award programs, and workshops. FEMP's outreach efforts provide ideas and encouragement to all federal employees striving to save energy and make a difference.
FEMP Focus
The FEMP Focus newsletter, published quarterly, provides timely articles on effective partnerships, energy and renewable projects, policy guidance, and special events, among other topics. With circulation of over 5,000, this newsletter also contains information on who to contact for more information and assistance at DOE's Headquarters, national laboratories, and the federal government.
Publications and Help Desk
FEMP produces a wide variety of publications, thousands of which are distributed each year electronically through this web site and in print through the EERE Information Center. Customers can order FEMP publications online and view and download information. Energy managers may call the toll free number (877-337-3463) to request these publications or to answer questions about federal energy management.
Annual Energy Conference: GovEnergy
FEMP's annual workshop and exposition, GovEnergy, co-sponsored by the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, General Services Administration, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and the Environmental Protection Agency offers a great opportunity to share information and network. Speakers, demonstrations, and exhibits convey the latest energy management strategies to thousands of attendees from both the public and private sectors.
Training
FEMP offers on-line and limited classroom training to provide education and periodic updates. Numerous webinars (live and archived presentations available through the web) and webcasts (web-based videos) can be found on the FEMP web site.
You Have the Power
Energy Champions lead by example and serve as role models for federal workers and the public.
FEMP's You Have the Power awareness campaign was created to honor, inspire, and encourage federal energy leadership. Twenty of the largest federal agencies participate, and each has a special coordinator who directs the national campaign for his or her agency. The campaign disseminates timely and topical information through handouts, posters, special publications, and other targeted outreach materials. The program also recognizes outstanding accomplishments of federal Energy Champions—government employees who are making extraordinary
contributions to save energy, money, and resources, and who serve as role models for fellow employees. In addition, the YHTP campaign recognizes federal agency projects and facilities that demonstrate cost-effective and innovative energy efficiency, water conservation, and renewable energy practices and technologies. These projects serve as inspirational models for future energy and water-saving endeavors.
Awards and Recognition
FEMP honors numerous individuals, teams, and organizations for their outstanding achievements through the prestigious Federal Energy and Water Management Awards and the Presidential Awards for Leadership in Federal Energy Management, presented in cooperation with the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive. FEMP also organizes the annual Department of Energy (Departmental) Awards to recognize outstanding projects within the Department.
Earth Day
Earth Day, celebrated each year on April 22, is a prime occasion for federal agencies to promote energy-saving and environmentally friendly practices at their facilities. FEMP helps federal agencies in this effort by providing posters and other promotional materials featuring special Earth Day messages.
Energy Awareness Month
Each October our nation celebrates Energy Awareness Month to remind us of the importance of saving energy. Not only does saving energy help foster a healthier planet, it also enhances our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign energy supplies. FEMP helps federal agencies increase the awareness of energy-saving benefits at federal facilities by providing promotional materials featuring Energy Awareness Month.
