Department of Agriculture

The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in Fort Collins, CO had limited funds available for energy efficiency programs. But by using off-the-shelf hardware and software - including building control systems, set-back timers, efficient chillers, and evaporative cooling pads - APHIS was able to cut annual natural gas and electricity use by 25 percent. In addition, by using water pressure pumps that control water consumption, APHIS is now saving 455,000 gallons of water each year.
