National Institutes of Health, Louis Stokes Laboratories/Bldg. 50 (Bethesda, MD)Department of Health and Human ServicesThe National Institutes of Health, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services, built a new 294,000 gross sq. ft. laboratory facility at its main campus in Bethesda, MD. The design incorporates all feasible and practical high-performance energy saving features including desiccant energy recovery wheels, variable-air-volume systems, variable-frequency-drive motors, programmable high efficiency lighting, daylighting, occupancy sensors, and efficient water fixtures. With these energy efficient devices, the Louis Stokes Laboratories/Building 50 will use less than half the energy of a conventional lab building. |
