Florida Regional Center (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

Department of State

The Department of State's Florida Regional Center in Fort Lauderdale is a solar showcase facility. Solar cells charge batteries during the day to provide parking lot lighting at night, eliminating the need to retrofit or upgrade the existing power supply system. In addition, flat-plate roof-top solar collectors have replaced the electric hot water heater. At an overall cost of $72,000 with a ten-year payback, these solar technologies will save taxpayer dollars by reducing electricity costs for years to come.
