EPA New England Regional Laboratory (North Chelmsford, MA)

Environmental Protection Agency

GSA partnered with EPA to construct a 71,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art laboratory facility that integrates many sustainable design features. The building incorporates daylighting, photovoltaic window shades, efficient heating and cooling systems, tinted windows, modular gas boilers, water-cooled chillers, skylights, high efficiency motors, and other features. Energy savings are projected to be 45% over a typical laboratory facility. Recycling efforts during construction also saved the government $10,000. Improved air quality measures, xeriscaping, and a wetlands area recharged by roof runoff water all add to an environmentally friendly facility.
