Outdoor Solid State Street and Roadway Lighting
Solid state lighting (SSL) technologies for street and roadway applications can provide quality lighting and reliable energy savings in the right environments. The following resources are provided for Federal agencies interested in pursuing street and roadway SSL deployments.
Municipal Solid State Street Lighting Consortium
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Municipal Solid State Street Lighting Consortium shares technical information and experiences surrounding LED street and area lighting demonstrations. It also serves as an objective resource for evaluating new street and area lighting products and applications. Additional information is outlined in the Consortium overview.
CALiPER Test Results
The DOE CALiPER (Commercially Available LED Product Evaluation and Reporting) tool supports testing of a wide array of available SSL products using industry-approved test procedures. DOE allows its test results to be distributed in the public interest for non-commercial, educational purposes only. Result summaries and detailed test reports are available, including the following for SSL street and roadway products:
- Arm-Mounted Roadway and Post-Top Luminaires
- Street Lights and Bollards
- Roadway Fixtures
- High-Watt Area Light and Street Light
Outdoor solid state lighting case studies across all applications are compiled on a dedicated page. Street and roadway lighting case studies are available on that page.
