New and Emerging Technology Evaluation Process

Doing Business with the Government
Several recognized methods exist for accessing the Federal market for energy-efficient and renewable energy products.

FEMP implemented the following evaluation process for new and emerging technology adoption within the Federal sector:

  1. Identify, catalog, and prioritize technologies within the FEMP Technology Deployment MatrixMicrosoft Excel.

  2. Conduct a preliminary market assessment.

  3. Develop technical materials surrounding new or emerging technology. This includes fact sheets and other publications resulting from technology demonstration activities conducted at Federal facilities.

  4. Identify a technology expert(s) and available resources.

Submitting Technologies for Review

FEMP does not fund the purchase or installation of new technologies. Instead, FEMP provides neutral expertise and evaluations. Funding is provided to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories and other experts to conduct new technology evaluations.

FEMP new and emerging technology evaluations are performed only by request from a Federal agency and if the program permits a published case study of the technology evaluation. If an evaluation is proven to be successful, FEMP asks agencies to revise purchasing specifications to incorporate the proven technology into future specifications.

FEMP encourages vendors to reach Federal audiences through promotional activities such as the GovEnergy, Labs21, and FedFleet conferences. Each offers an opportunity to exhibit energy-saving products and services before a large audience.
