renewable energy projects, with some loan guarantees
specifically set aside for cutting-edge biofuel projects. The

NASA Offers a $1.5 Million Prize for a Fast and Fuel-Efficient Aircraft
Designing and building an aircraft that can average 100 miles
per hour while achieving a fuel economy greater than 200
passenger-miles per gallon could earn some team a cash
prize of $1.5 million. NASA's Green Flight Challenge will offer
an additional prize for a high-performing craft running on

Energy, Treasury Now Accepting Applications for Funding for Renewable Energy Projects
The U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of
the Treasury announced they are now accepting applications
for a program that will make direct payments in lieu of tax
credits to companies that create and place in service

"Cash for Clunkers" Rebate Program Gets Rolling
Officially known as the Car Allowance Rebate System,
the "cash for clunkers" program officially took effect on July
24. It will cut the cost of new cars by up to $4,500 for those
who trade in their used, inefficient vehicles and allow them to

DOE is offering $52.5 million for research, development, and
demonstration of concentrating solar power systems that use
energy storage to operate at least 18 hours a day.
Concentrating solar power systems focus the sun's heat and
