DOE Awards $1.2 Million to Facilitate Opportunities for U.S. Clean Energy Technologies and Services on Remote Electricity Grids in Indonesia

January 4, 2013

The Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) awarded $1.2 million to promote clean energy deployment in Indonesia.  The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) was selected as the project coordinator.  NREL and its partner Winrock International will work together with Indonesian ministry and local officials, Indonesia’s national utility, international donors and agencies and private sector partners, including General Electric Company, to accelerate the deployment of high-penetration renewable energy and energy efficient technologies on selected islands and remote electricity grids.   Partners will provide cash and in-kind contributions totaling up to $70,000 in cost share.  The project will demonstrate the cost-competitive replacement of existing diesel-powered energy generation systems on remote Indonesian islands with demand-side management and renewable energy technologies.  NREL will coordinate closely with U.S. trade promotion agencies.

The EERE International Program advances the progress of EERE’s domestic programs and accelerates global deployment of U.S. clean energy technologies and services through international collaboration.
