Summary:
The Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy announces a funding opportunity for cooperative agreements from the Office of the Biomass Program. This announcement requests applications to design, construct, build, and operate an integrated biorefinery that employs lignocellulosic feedstocks for the production of combinations of:
- Liquid transportation fuels
- Bio-based chemicals
- Substitutes for petroleum-based feedstocks and products
- Energy in the form of electricity or useful heat.
It is expected that biorefineries proposed under this opportunity will be operational within 3 to 4 years.
Approximately $53,000,000 is expected to be available in fiscal year 2007 for new awards. Additional funding is expected to be available in fiscal years 2008 and 2009. Approximately $160 million over 3 years is expected to be available for new awards.
