The Geothermal Technologies Program is seeking projects in a variety of geologic formations that will quantitatively demonstrate and validate stimulation techniques that successfully sustain sufficient fluid flow and heat extraction rates for 5-7 years and produce at least 5 MWe per year per project site or geothermal reservoir. DOE will also consider projects to further characterize, stimulate, and validate underutilized geothermal resources, particularly in urban and rural regions with high electricity costs such as Alaska, Hawaii, the eastern United States, Indian Reservations, etc.
Initial estimated total funding for this award is listed at $10,000,000 in FY09; with additional anticipated funds of $39,000,000 in FY10, FY11, FY12, FY13, and FY14, subject to change and Congressional appropriations.
