Summary:
The National Energy and Technology Laboratory, on behalf of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy’s (EERE) Office of FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies (OFCVT), is seeking applications for cost-shared projects to develop more energy efficient and environmentally friendly highway transportation technologies. The announcement seeks to receive applications in the following three technology areas:
- E85 Optimized Engine: The focus of this area is research and development projects that will result in optimized flexible fuel light-duty vehicles that exploit the favorable properties of ethanol gasoline blends.
- Enabling Technologies for Fuels and Lubricants: This area supports research and development efforts to directly substitute petroleum-based fuels with non-petroleum based fuels, as well as the use of fuel to enable advanced combustion systems that provide clean, highly efficient engines for future vehicles.
- Efficiency Clean Combustion and Fuels Co-Development: This area focuses on the development of more efficient combustion engines that can be cost-competitive with gasoline engines in passenger vehicles.
